MUUNGANO WEAVERS

Knit Basket Weavers

We started working with seven weavers, who we found in a local market outside of Machakos, Kenya, in early 2017. Muungano is now a formal group, and they have increased to 22 members! They weave all of our vibrant knit baskets, full of pattern and color.

Beatrice is 76 years old and has been weaving for 10 years. She has seven children and is a retired police officer! She is also the Vice Chair for the group.

Christina is 55 years old and has been weaving for 33 years. She has 8 children and used to manage a weaving group run by a Danish woman in the '80s.
